Flogging Molly is spending a good chunk of time with the Red Frog family this year. Between headlining our St. Patrick’s Day festival, ShamrockFest, in DC and playing Firefly for the first time, we are about to get some quality time with these talented musicians in 2016. We had the chance to get to know them a bit before hitting the road. Here’s what we know:
What is your favorite part about performing?
Being able to share something we created with an audience and have them love it and show their enthusiasm for it. Also, making music with 6 other people, having it come together as a force more powerful than imagined.
Why are you excited to perform at Firefly?
I don’t think we have ever played it before, so it will be great to do a festival we have not done. Hope to meet some new people. I don’t think we have ever been to Delaware in the 20 years we’ve been touring so it’ll be cool to check it off. I also hear it’s a really cool festival.
Do you have any pre-performance rituals?
About 5 shots of whiskey, a few beers, and a group hug.
What is the most difficult thing about performing that your fans may not know about?
Playing with an enormous hangover!
What other artist/band/performer on the Firefly lineup would you most likely go see?
Florence & The Machine, and Fitz and The Tantrums we toured with years ago so it’ll be nice to see them again. I mostly like to check out music I don’t know, so I’ll probably be wandering around taking in as much as I can.
Have you ever been to Delaware? If so, when and for what?
No and looking forward to it.
What’s your favorite thing about summer music festivals?
Seeing good music, hanging out with old friends you only see on tour. Walking around the huge crowds.
If you had to listen to one album only for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Who has been the greatest influence in your musical career?
Too hard to pick one.
If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If you could have dinner with one person, dead or alive, who would it be?
Chuck Mertz, he’s the radio show “This Is Hell” host on WNUR. Amazing man, smart, funny, insightful. He puts together a 4-hour current events/news and much more show every week and does it so well it feels like 45 minutes. I’ve only gotten drunk with him so dinner sounds like a grand idea.
What’s your favorite song of the moment?
“Anything” by Colin Stetson. If I had to pick one it would be “High Above a Grey Green Sea”
Do you have any hidden talents?
I wish I did.
What’s your favorite movie?
“There Will Be Blood”
What skill do you wish you had?
I wish I could speed read. Seems like that could come in handy in so many ways.
