Mural artist, Victor Ving, and photographer, Lisa Beggs, are on a cross-country road trip in a RV creating interactive murals that will become future landmarks. The ‘Greetings Tour’ seeks to create public art that will capture the pride of local residents for their hometowns and spark the interest of visitors and tourists. The two artists have been traveling select cities throughout the United States since April 2015 painting murals inspired by vintage large-letter postcards. Their ultimate goal is to complete murals in all 50 states (and yes that includes Alaska & Hawaii too.)
At each stop, Lisa’s photography and insider knowledge from locals will serve as reference for letters in the mural given back to the cities. Local artists and businesses will be invited to collaborate.
During our travels last year, we were honored to be invited to create a piece in our signature style for Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE. Luckily, we happened to be in the Northeast at the time and couldn’t turn down the opportunity. Using some photographs from their past festivals as inspiration, they gave us the creative freedom to come up with a “Greetings from Firefly” design.
We drove out to Dover in our RV about a week prior to the festival and the Firefly team set us up with a 8 x 30 ft. canvas to work on. They let us camp next to the mural overnight and we finished it in about 2 days. One of our favorite parts of the piece was the neon green/yellow border around the letters that resembled the glow of a firefly. The photos don’t really do it justice but it was definitely bright in person!
We were excited that the canvas was placed right by the VIP loft with a view of the main stage! It was surreal watching the huge crowd, people interacting with our mural and Florence and the Machine performing all at the same time. Thank you to the Firefly team for an amazing opportunity & an unforgettable time.
