We are happy to introduce Jamie Shanker, editor of Midtown Lunch Philadelphia, as our very first Firefly Food guide. Jamie navigates the Philadelphia food scene like a chef maneuvering through a kitchen. Born and raised eating on the spicy streets of Queens, New York, Jamie has been bringing people together through food since her 5th grade dim sum birthday parties.
As a born and bred food adventurer she attacked Korean buffets and basement food courts in Queens before moving to Philly for law school, focusing less on contracts and torts and more on devouring the best and most authentic foods around the city. Jamie now works in community economic development and is the driving force behind Street Fare, a food truck festival held every fall in Mt. Airy. Besides working with small businesses and food writing, she also runs a food tour business, Philly Food Adventures, in Philadelphia’s Chinatown where she can be found guiding groups on where to find the best dumplings.
Jamie is a first time Fireflier, but a big music lover. She’s excited to share the Woodlands with all of you and can’t wait to see Major Lazer, because she loves to twerk almost as much as she loves to eat. Along with her love of bass she is bringing her knowledge of all things food to Firefly and we’re excited to have her aboard!
In the next few months, Jamie will be tackling one of the most discussed topics of Festival campers, food. How to store it, how to elevate camp food into something more, vegetarian options and how to make sure you all have the energy for four days of intense festivaling.
Welcome aboard Jamie!
